The
Rotary Riverwalk is a joint Centennial project of
the Thiensville-Mequon Rotary Club (The Tuesday Noon
Rotary Club) and the Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise
Rotary Club (The Friday Morning Rotary Club). It is
called a Centennial project as it is being done in
commemoration of Rotary International's Centennial
Anniversary, which occurred on February 23, 2005.
These
two Rotary clubs are doing the planning,
development, engineering, fund raising and building
of this project in partnership with the City of
Mequon, Village of Thiensville, The State of
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and with
the aid of other Mequon and Thiensville civic
groups.
The
Rotary Riverwalk was conceived early in 2004 and
fund raising commenced in the Fall of 2004 with the
First Annual Fall Into Art Festival, which was
celebrated in Thiensville on September 18, 2004.
This event was again successfully staged on
September 10, 2005, and September 9, 2006.
In
2005 an additional event was held in the springtime,
that being the Walk for Riverwalk. This event was
again celebrated on June 10, 2006, in conjunction
with the annual Lionsfest held at Thiensville
Village Park.
All
funding for this project is being routed through the
Thiensville-Mequon Rotary Foundation, Inc., a
501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation which was
established with the advent of the two club's
involvement with the funding and building of City of
Mequon Rotary Park, a 96 acre recreational park
development at the intersection of River and
Highland Roads in the northern area of Mequon.
All donations to this project are fully
tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
The
Rotary Riverwalk is expected to be a 5 to 10 year
project, depending on the amount of funding made
available to it, the willingness of the landowners
along the route to cooperate with this project, and
the cooperation of our other potential civic
organization partners.
